In church this morning I found myself reflecting on the words of a song we sang:
“Du är värt allt lov” – You are worth all praise!
It occurred to me that this word lov is also used to describe days off, holidays. Just now the kids have sommarlov – summer holidays. At Christmas we have jullov, at Easter påsklov and in February sportlov. But just as English speakers seldom think of holidays as “holy days” so for Swedes sommarlov does not denote “summer praise” but summer holidays.
But summer is so lovely in Sweden, what better way to pass the days than in praise of the One who made it all.
